My only complaint is that this wasn’t saved for Friday.

Erm. I seem to recall in history class being taught that Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain declared war on Germany for invading Poland.
Did I miss something?

There’s a wall calendar just out of sight that says “30 August 1939".

I think it is overshadowed in the minds of many by his earlier “peace for our time” speech following the Munich accord, which tends to be remembered as naive appeasement of an increasingly aggressive Germany.
To be fair though, the international community as a whole, such as it was in the 1930s, didn’t take the obvious signs and threat seriously. Perhaps everyone was just weary from the previous “war to end all wars”, and the Great Depression.

It’s weird to see Poland balls guest staring in a Far Side panel. I thought it was Friday for a sec.

WWII: Th e war where no one took anyone seriously when it started , and we went from fighting like we did in the early 1900s to how we fight today in just under the span of 10 years.
A-mazing we didn’t exterminate ourselves during that one.....

A time if unimagined horror and spectacular innovation that we are still benefiting from today. How shitty that we need the worst of times to bring out the best of our abilities.

Well yes, though the Czechslovakian flag was changed quite a lot around that period as it formed from different countries, then took over, etc... though a common flag for that era was the reverse of the Polish flag prior to the inclusion of the blue triangle on the left of the Czechslovakian flag.
